1850s Horseshoe Tournament
Date: June 2, 2018
Time: 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM
Event Description
A different approach to making "sports history," the Adobe Ferry Champion Horseshoe Pitchers Contest is a double-elimination doubles tournament which rekindles the excitement of an 1850s pitch-off. Horseshoe pitching was one of the most popular sports during the Gold Rush. Nearly every blacksmith shop had a court in the rear. The game, however, was played with more abandon than today's game. For our tourney, the rules of the Gold Rush are used, and the number 8 draft shoes are "straight from the hoof.Since this tourney is more of a living history event than a competition, NHPA tournament players are asked not to participate. This one's strictly for the back yarders! Competitors pay an entry fee, but spectators are admitted free."
