Have you seen the elephant? Have you seen its tail? Seeing the elephant was a common phrase used to reflect early immigrant’s anticipation of see something new and exciting on their westward journey. This sentiment will be this year’s theme for Adobe Day where we will recapture 1850s pioneer life at the Adobe Homestead. Park staff and volunteers wearing costumes from the California Gold Rush era will be there to greet you as you cross the Ide Adobe Bridge of Time to arrive in the year 1852. Adobe Day offers an opportunity for family and friends to gather for an old-fashioned day of fun along the banks of the Sacramento River. Come discover what it was like to be a part of the rough-and-tumble times of early California. Visitors will be invited to participate in adobe brick-making, rope-making, cornhusk doll making, log sawing, candle-making, quilting, and dancing the Virginia reel. Children may also enjoy participating in some rousing pioneer games, purchasing a “sweet” at the General Store, or enjoying a show at the puppet theater.
